Muhju (Swiss, b. 1997) is an architect and illustrator based in Zurich, who graduated from ETH Zurich in 2023. He is renowned for his distinctive art style, ‘Renaissance 2.0’, which draws inspiration from the grandeur of ancient Greece and Rome, as well as the Renaissance and Baroque periods. His digital work captures the aesthetics of these influential eras, seamlessly blending classic artistic elements with modern digital methods. Using a mix of 3D programs, modeling tools, and 2D digital painting techniques, Muhju brings a fresh twist to our contemporary world, combining tradition with innovation.

Muhju’s talent and unique vision have gained him global recognition, with exhibitions in cities like Rome, Milan, New York, Seoul, Paris, and Bangkok. His creative prowess has also caught the eye of prestigious patrons like the Medici Family of Florence, who have collected his works and commissioned him for design projects, such as the modern reinterpretation of the Medici Coat of Arms.

The Medici coat of arms is a timeless and iconic artifact, featuring a radiant golden shield adorned with six spheres (originally “bisanti”), one of which holds a blue orb decorated with three fleurs-de-lys, symbolizing the Medici family’s ancient ties to the royal house of France. Muhju’s redesign integrates this historical emblem into the digital art renaissance, crafted specifically for Cosimo de’ Medici di Toscana di Ottajano.

At the top of the composition, a cherubic figure holds a crown bearing the Ethereum logo, referencing the Medici diamond, while laurel wreaths evoke the triumphs and immortality of the Medici family. The crown is also adorned with three feathers, paying homage to Cosimo de’ Medici il Vecchio, the “Pater Patriae.”

Upon closer inspection, the crest reveals an ornate, gilded skull at the bottom, a “memento mori” motif that reminds viewers of mortality, countered by the resurrection of artistic creation symbolized by the wings of angelic figures. The phrase “Le Temps Revient” is engraved on the banners, echoing the motto of Lorenzo il Magnifico and inspired by Virgil’s 4th Eclogue, “Redeunt Saturnia regna… surget gens aurea mundo,” which also inspired Sandro Botticelli’s “Primavera.” This inscription heralds the hope for the beginning of a new era of prosperity and artistic splendor, even in times of crisis.
